Conclusion

P E R C E P T I O N

... While doing my tapestry I discovered how perception plays a very significant role in our life. We use perception each and everyday for survival. When we look at a certain object, we use our perception to guide us to see weather or not it is safe. Throughout our life we go through different experiences that change our views  thus making each and everyone of us unique. Throughout  my tapestry I was able to find many stories, quotes and media pieces that were able to relate to both sides of my theme. Both sides of my theme are used in our everyday life - how we view something compared to how others may view something. Each person's view on life varies based on different circumstances, such as their culture, how they've grown up or who they are surrounded by. An example would be the young boy in my flash fiction who grew up with a more difficult life, resulting in him killing himself.  Sometimes perception leads to judgement which may lead to actions, but it can also have a positive affect like shown in the short fiction. The story, A Strong Conscience showed how the black lady had more respect towards the white man who helped them in their time of need, altering her perception positively. So what are we without perception? Nothing, because everywhere we are we use perception as one of our instincts as described in the slide show in media 1. We use our perception to help us survive in our everyday life. A quote that I found relates to this idea, "We don't live in a world of reality, we live in a world of perceptions." (Simmons) This quote suggests that  there is no set reality, each person views the world with his or her own perspective because who defines what "reality" is, if we're all having different perceptions of what's real.
Throughout my tapestry, I wanted readers to understand that each individual is born and raised differently. Humans are influenced by different life experiences that change their perception.  What appears to be the truth on certain matters depends on the eyes of the beholder.
