The word perception represents a truth; however the truth has many variations to it, and it depends on how the person seeking the truth views life. We assign different meanings to what we perceive. One might change their perspective or simply see a concept in a different light. How we give perception to certain matters depends on how we are as a person. Do we look at the matters with a positive or negative spin. Do we focus on the glass being half empty or half full. There are many factors that influence our perceptions.
However, no two people see the external world in exactly the same way.

To every separate person a thing is what he thinks it is --in other words, not a thing, but a think.

We do not see things as they are.

We do not see things as they are.
We see them as we are.

The first quote suggests that no two people think alike. There are many factors that influence our thought process; therefore, how we respond to certain matters depends on how our minds think. The second quote digs deeper and suggests that we perceive matters based on the type of person we are. The more optimistic a person is, the more likely they will perceive matters more positively. Whereas a person who has a negative view on life will perceive matters more pessimistically. Three different texts that reflect my first quotation is the Lunch Date, Cinderella Story, and Dancer.Three different text that reflect to my second quotation is Hannah Montana the TV show, Hunger Games, as well as The Dinner Party.

I like your topic choice. A good theme that can be found in many different texts. You may want to even discuss the way perception leads to judgement and then to action, as we discussed in class. "The Dinner Party" might be a good source too, as you will see.
ReplyDeleteThink about how our perceptions are altered specifically because of our own value systems. Your first quotation can help you to display your understanding of this relationship.
A good start.
